Walmart Empowers Women Businesses With Launch of New Site

In the past few months I have written about many charitable organizations that help women. This is something that is extremely important to me. One of the causes that I particularly like is 1,000 Shillings which allows Ugandan Women to sell necklaces they make online and earn money instead of receiving handouts. Now Walmart is expanding on this idea and making it even easier for us to purchase goods from women-owned businesses around the world.

Walmart has created a section of its website just for women-owned businesses called Empowering Women Together. Shop here for distinctive products created from women worldwide. Walmart is giving women the opportunity and platform to sell their wares. From Walmart:

“Our hope is to provide these hard-working women with opportunities to improve their own lives, while creating new jobs and enhancing the lives of their families and their communities.”

And there are benefits for you also:

  1. You can buy unique and interesting products from around the world at one online location. Right now there are over 200 items from 19 businesses in 9 countries. Some of the products sold are clothing, jewelry, accessories, fine food and home goods.
  2. Instead of feeling guilty spending money when you shop, you can feel good that you are helping women improve their lives.

I don’t know about you, but I do the majority of my shopping online. Why deal with crowded stores and standing on line and travel time to and from the store, when it is so easy to shop from home (with the exception of some types of clothes). I am going to now make this new site, Empowering Women Together, one of my go-to sites to shop on. Thank you Walmart for giving me a great place to shop and for helping women earn.

Disclaimer: I am part of the Mom It Forward blogger network. Mom It Forward and Walmart partnered in support of this campaign. Walmart compensated me for participation in this campaign. However, all thoughts and opinions are my own.

  1. This is certainly a great cause. I love to see businesses helping others.

  2. Thanks for sharing. I am such a huge fan of social good and supporting those to empower and be able to provide for themselves. Such small changes in our lifestyles can really impact others in a huge way.
