A Platform for Good is a website created by the Family Online Safety Institute where teens, parents and teachers connect, share, learn and discuss new technologies and our digital world. Technology can be used for so much good, and this website is a positive platform to explore that side of it.
Our vision for A Platform for Good is to start a dialogue about what it means to participate responsibly in a digital world. . .We hope to achieve this goal by providing parents and teachers with the resources to learn about and interact with new technologies, and by giving teens the ability to engage and teach their peers, family members, and educators.
There is so much information in A Platform For Good, that I highly encourage all families to bookmark this site, even if you don’t use it to its fullest. The website is made up of Interactive Features, a Blog, and a Resource Center. For the Blog and Interactive Features, you can choose to only see the posts for teens, parents or teachers.
The Interactive Features are my favorites. While the blog posts are excellent, the Interactive features have you doing something, and they sometimes involve two of the groups together, such as a parent and a teen. Here are some examples:
- Clean up your digital footprint (parents, teens)
- Digital Citizenship Flashcards (teachers, parents)
- Gift Coupons for Parents (teens)
Probably the most important section of A Platform for Good is the excellent Resources Center. This is a must-save if you have kids or teens. This page has a link to just about every resource you could possibly need on the topics of social media, privacy, safety and security, understanding terms and services, reporting inappropriate content, and finding classroom and volunteer opportunities.
I couldn’t recommend this site more highly. The advisors and staff of A Platform For Good are like a Who’s Who of the top people in the field and it would take a whole blog post to list them and their accomplishments. You and your family should check out this website together. I think you will be happy you did.
