Science, technology, engineering and math (STEM) education is more important now than ever before. These are the areas where jobs and careers are plentiful and needed. How can you encourage your teen’s and tween’s interest in these fields. Video game creation is a fantastic way and by entering the National STEM Video Game Challenge they will receive all the resources they need and have a chance at winning prizes.
This game design competition is open to high school and middle school students. The challenge began in 2010 with the aim of motivating interest in STEM learning among America’s youth by tapping into students’ natural passion for playing and making video games.
The competion will begin late January 2013. However it is never too early to begin. There are many resources available on the National STEM Video Game Challenge website to help students get started now. A new link will appear on the website when the competition begins with additional features such as mentor guides, toolkits, videos with pro advice, game design activities and more.
What benefits will your teens or tweens receive from entering this competition. The actual prizes are secondary. Learning through video game creation is an excellent way to learn.
