Walk the Walk is a grant making charity whose flagship events are MoonWalks and SunWalks in the United Kingdom. Now, for the first time, Walk the Walk America was formed and will be holding a MoonWalk in New York City on July 20, 2013.
What is a MoonWalk? It is not the dance that Michael Jackson made famous. It is a walk for charity that takes place at night instead of during the day. A SunWalk is a daytime walk. Since July in NYC can be very hot and humid, night time will work out for the best.
Here are the details:
“We’ll kick off The MoonWalk from our MoonWalk City at Randall’s Island with a participant opening ceremony and dance party. At around 10pm, we’ll hit the road and walk around the island of Manhattan, first heading south down the East Side following the East River, touring through the East Village and SoHo, and then heading back north up the West Side, along the Hudson River. We’ll enjoy breathtaking views of the harbor and the Statue of Liberty, and pass by some of New York City’s most iconic sights. Of course, there will be both options – the full 26.2 mile marathon, as well as the 13.1 mile “Half Moon” route – as we want to ensure that everyone can participate no matter their fitness levels or abilities.”
One other thing. While you can wear whatever you want on bottom, everyone wears only a bra that can be seen on top. Walk the Walk provides it and you can decorate it anyway you want. You can wear the bra over a t-shirt if you are uncomfortable.
You can find out anything you want to know on the Walk the Walk America FAQ page. If you are interested you can register for Walk the Walk in NYC here. If you walk with a big group of friends or family this could be a blast and think of the good you would be doing (and the calories you would be burning).
