Netflix has been adding new original series to its roster of TV shows almost non-stop lately. And they have had many big hits, with the most recent being Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt. Today, Netflix is launching Grace and Frankie, starring Jane Fonda, Lily Tomlin, Martin Sheen and Sam Waterson. Here are some of the many reasons you should watch it.

Netflix Grace Frankie

1. To celebrate that a TV series is being made about people in their sixties, starring two women in their mid-seventies. In an industry that doesn’t care about audiences or actresses older than 49, this is a big win.

2. The plot of the series has Martin Sheen and Sam Waterston, as Grace and Frankie’s husbands and law partners, admit to their wives that they are gay, in love with each other and want to divorce each of them. Sam Waterston, is especially adorable in his role.

3. Although the series is labeled a comedy, it is really a dramedy. While it is very funny and was created by Marta Kaufman of Friends fame, there are many more serious moments than a typical comedy. I think that eventually these labels are going to be meaningless.

4. Jane Fonda and Lily Tomlin are as sharp and funny as ever. I don’t know how they do it. And it is great fun watching them start out as frenimies, and slowly bond over the course of the season.

Netflix Gilmore Girls

There is something about TV series featuring nontraditional families, like Grace and Frankie, that draws me to them. Those living together seem to always be closer because they don’t have the elements of a traditional family. The Gilmore Girls was one of my favorites. Mother and daughter alone and only 16 years apart, they were best friends also. Although the entire town seemed to have adopted them, so they always had help. If you’ve never watched the Gilmore Girls, you can stream all seven seasons on Netflix.

And make sure to check out Jane Fonda and Lily Tomlin in Grace and Frankie on Netflix. There are 13 episodes, all available for streaming now.

Full Disclosure: I am writing this as part of the Netflix #StreamTeam. I receive free Netflix streaming each month for doing this. However this does not affect any of my opinions. I’ve subscribed to Netflix for years before this and will continue when this is over.
