With Christmas vacation beginning, what a perfect time for a new kid-friendly television series to debut on Netflix. If your family has seen any of the Madagascar animated movies, they will definitely remember the extremely funny lemur, King Julien and his sidekicks, Mort and Maurice. Now, they are back, in a new animated series, All Hail King Julien, a prequel to the movies.

Five episodes of this Dreamworks series about King Julien have been released so far. Danny Jacobs is the voice of King Julien, although he is only Prince Julien as the series begins. Henry Winkler gives voice to his scheming uncle, the current King Julien. Andy Richter and Kevin Michael Richardson are back as Mort and Maurice.

If you aren’t very familiar with the Madagascar characters, you can actually watch some holiday stories of them in the DreamWorks Happy Holidays from Madagascar on Netflix. It consists of:

1. Merry Madagascar
2. Madly Madagascar
3. The Madagascar Penguins: A Christmas Caper

I started thinking about everyone making lists of their favorite Christmas movies, yet you rarely hear about New Year’s Eve movies. And there are many. These films might not be about New Year’s Eve, but they take place at that time, and usually the holiday plays a part in the plot. Here are three of my favorites, all available on Netflix:

Netflix holidays movie

1. Sleepless in Seattle – Tom Hanks has not even met Meg Ryan yet, but the conversation he has on NYE with his dead wife is heartbreaking.
2. An Affair to Remember – Cary Grant and Deborah Kerr share a kiss on NYE and decide to meet 6 months later on the top of the Empire State Building.
3. Trading Places – One of the funnies movies of the 1980’s starring Eddie Murphy and Dan Akroyd as they get even with their bosses on NYE.

What are your favorite New Year’s Eve movies?

Full Disclosure: I am part of the Netflix Stream Team. I get free Netflix streaming. However, I’ve had Netflix for years before this, and I will stay a subscriber after.
