Black Friday and Cyber Monday are two well known days for great shopping sales invented to help kick start the holiday shopping season. If you also see the holidays as a time to give, then you will be happy to learn about #GivingTuesday, a call to action to celebrate giving and encourage smarter giving during the holidays.

#GivingTuesday is November 27, 2012, the Tuesday after Thanksgiving provides a framework for Americans to contribute to their community. What a great way for your kids to learn what the holidays are really about.

Most of us have charity in our hearts but don’t always know where or how to give. That is where the #Giving Tuesday website comes in. On the website you will find many recommended resources and ideas for giving and contributing. You will also find other ways that you can be involved as a partner, social media ambassador of just by helping spread the word.

I am thankful for my involvement with the Global Team of 200 for sharing the information about  #GivingTuesday with me so that I could pass it on. If you also want to help spread the word, please follow the organization on Twitter at @GivingTues and retweet their messages. You can also follow #GivingTuesday on Facebook, Tumblr, Pinterest and YouTube.

#GivingTuesday is a day to prove that giving back to our communities is part of a great tradition of philanthropy and volunteerism that helps make this nation strong. Share this with your family. Giving is one of the best ways of all for families to bond and connect.
