One of the first blog posts that I wrote when I began Connect with your Teens through Pop Culture and Technology was a list of blogs that can help you stay up-to-date with pop culture. After five years I thought it was high time that I created a new list.

Here is my new list of blogs and websites to read to keep you completely up-to-date with pop culture so that you can better connect with your teens, tweens and young adults. None of these websites are primarily gossip sites. While there will be some gossip mixed in, these sites will let you know what is happening in movies, TV and music with even some information on books, video games and Broadway.

Entertainment Weekly online

1. Entertainment Weekly better known online as EW.com – My absolute favorite entertainment website and magazine of all time. If you want to choose only one website to follow for your pop culture needs, this is it.  It has everything you could possibly want. Great writers, great features, great regular columns and great reviews. Not only does the EW website have more sections than the magazine, it also contains many very popular blogs – two on TV and one each on movies, music. books and news. My favorite features are the EW lists and year-end posts.

The Hollywood Reporter online logo

2. The Hollywood Reporter – You will find all the news on all entertainment topics here. While The Hollywood Reporter will also keep you up-to-date and I do like it, it reads more like it is written for Hollywood insiders, as opposed to EW which feels like it is written for me. However, you will be able to find all the Hollywood news that is fit to print and then some on this site.

3. POPSUGAR Entertainment – Part of the women’s POPSUGAR websites, POPSUGAR Entertainment, formerly known as BuzzSugar, is entertainment news for women, covering  TV, movies, books, celebrities and music. With pages filled with tons of pictures and pink links, it is a little too cutesy for me, but might appeal to many young moms or moms with teenage daughters.

The A.V. Club website logo

4. The A.V. Club – While I might not be able to back this up, The A.V. Club (owned by The Onion) tends more towards males. While it doesn’t make much of a difference in the website, I mostly brought it up since I featured a website for females above. While in some respects The A.V. Club is a typical entertainment news sites, in others it varies. While the film, music and books sections consist of reviews, features and news like most entertainment websites, the TV section is called TV Club and you can create your own account to follow your favorite shows. The video section is filled with home-made videos by the A.V. Club and there is a comedy section, something I haven’t seen on other entertainment sites. So I would check out this website for its uniqueness.

Rotten Tomatoes website

5. Rotten Tomatoes – The main purpose of Rotten Tomatoes is to track reviews of movies and then post the percentage of good reviews for each movie on its website. It is a quick and easy tool for anyone looking for a movie to check and see what the critics think without having to read reviews. In addition, if you see where if says “news” at the top of the page and click the little area next to it, you will find features, guides, news and many interesting columns to read.

IMDB - Internet Movie Database website

6. IMDB – You can find a great deal of information, especially on the cast and crew of almost any movie or TV series ever made on IMDB, or the Internet Movie Database. Now, when you see an actor and say to yourself “where do I know her from”, you have a place to easily look it up. My sons don’t know how I ever lived without it. Neither do I. And there is also a tab for movie and TV news on this website also.  I highly recommended downloading the IMDB app on your mobile devices. You never know when you will need it.

What is your favorite Entertainment news website?
