Cell phones considered essential by teens

The Cellular Telecommunciations and Internet Association and Harris Interactive released a report on 9/12/2008 called “A Generation Unplugged“. Over 100 questions were asked of over 2000 teenagers on their mobile phone usage, attitudes, behaviors and their desires and aspirations for the future. A majority of the teens said that having a cell phone improved the quality of their life.

Half of the teens in the survey said that cell phones have become a form of entertainment. When asked what determines a teen’s social status, cell phones ranked 2nd, right behind clothes, ahead of both jewelry, watches and shoes. A sense of security was another important feature of cell phones for teens.

The fact that mobile technology is still changing has teens excited. They say a future where they will be able to do much more with it. Their ideal mobile device would be a phone, MP3 player, GPS, laptop computer and video player all in one. Teens want to flexibility of being able to do everything mobile and they will be a large influence in mobile technology in the coming years.
