I attended the Activision Family Game Summit this week and was very impressed with everything I saw and heard. Activision is a big promoter of family gaming and much of the Summit discussion was about ESRB ratings and the benefits of playing video games (for more on that topic, see The Gamer Generation: Reaping the Benefits of Video Games).

Here are 9 fun Activision games perfect for tweens and families that would make great holiday gifts.

Tween Girls should enjoy:

    1. Lalaloopsy Carnival of Friends for Nintendo DS – See 40 of your favorite characters, play with the Lalaloopsy siblings and explore 16 different levels with a Silly Funhouse carnival theme!

    1. Bratz: Fashion Boutique for Nintendo DS – Create fashion collections, organize fashion shows, decorate fashion boutiques and give your customers makeovers.

  1. Moshi Monsters Moshlings Theme Park for Nintendo DS – Rebuild and explore the Moshi Theme Park. Find lost Moshis and experience monster rides.

Tween Boys should enjoy:

    1. Transformers Prime The Game for Nintendo Wii, Wii U, and DS – Play as one of your favorite Autobot characters including Bumblebee and Bulkhead as you battle through unique vistas around the world to help defeat the Deceptions.
    1. The Trash Pack for Nintendo DS – Join the Trashies in gross litter-loaded adventures. Whether you’re flinging your Trashie friends into garbage cans or driving the Garbage Truck to collect falling waste, the jobs are always disgustingly fun!
  1. Wreck-It Ralph for Nintendo Wii and DS – Classic arcade game fun with the movie’s characters.

For the Entire Family:

    1. Wipeout 3 for Xbox, Nintendo Wii, Wii U and DS – The whole family and compete in an all new Wipeout. Wipeout 3 boasts all-new features and effects that catapult players into the most intense, body-contorting action yet!  Fans will recognize their favorite obstacles like the Sweeper Arms and the Big Balls, but will be blown away by 12 fresh winter and summer course themes with dozens of obstacles allowing for non-stop fun.
    1. Angry Birds Trilogy for PlayStation 3, Xbox 360 and Nintendo DS – Play Angry Birds, Angry Birds Seasons and Angry Birds Rio on a big screen together with the rest of your family or friends.
  1. Skylander Giants for PlayStation 3, Xbox 360, Nintendo Wii and 3DS – The most popular game of last year, Skylanders Spyro’s Adventure, is back with a new game and figures. You can either buy a starter pack or a Portal Owner’s Pack for those that already own the Skylanders portal.
The panel at the Activision Family Summit was made up of:
  1. Soleil Moon Frye – actress, author and mom @moonfrye
  2. Nicole Armstrong – Activision Marketing Director @ATVI_Family
  3. Patricia Vance – President of the ESRB @OKtoPlay
  4. Suzanne Kantra – Techlicious Blog @Techlicious
When you are looking for video games to buy your kids and tweens, it is important to check ESRB ratings. Video games have many benefits for your kids but not if they aren’t age appropriate. Common Sense Media is a great website to get age-appropriate recommendations.

  1. It is so easy to ignore the ESRB ratings and they are super helpful. We wouldn’t let our kids have Mature until after 16 (wow were they mad) and even then I didn’t like them!

  2. I have to look for these – my niece and nephew would probably like these (I have a birthday and Christmas presents to buy)

    Thanks for the reviews/ideas
